St. Jacobs Oil
St Jacobs Oil was used as a liniment for rheumatism, aches and pains. Their advertisements were painted on fence posts, barns and even rocks. Many of the advertisements were created in a prose.
August Vogeler came to the United States from Germany. By 1880 (most likely by 1878) he had partnered with his son and another person (Charles A. Vogeler and John H. Winkleman) to produce St. Jakobs Oel. By 1881 advertisements for this products were appearing in papers across the country, proclaming this as a Great German Remedy for Rheumatism and for other afflictions such as gout and other aches and pains.
Possible ingredients for this product was turpentine, camphore, ether, alohol, carboli aid, capsium and aconite
