One website took me to an ad for Greens August Flower ‘for your stomach and liver’. But it also noted it as a G.G. Green instead of the L.M. listed on the bottle…..are they one and the same???
George Gill Green: Born January 16, 1842- February 26, 1925 was patent medicine entrepreneur, and Colonel in the US Civil War. His father was Lewis M. Green 1818-?) who worked as a butcher. In 1867 George started a wholesale drug business in Baltimore, Maryland but the factory was destoyed by fied. He moved to Ohio and got married.
George bought the rights to the "Green's August Flower" and "Dr. Boschee's German SYrup" From his father Lewis M. Green, who sold the elixer under the name "L.M. Green." George created a marketing campaign involving mass mailings of free samples, and the distribution of thousands of his almanacs. Both elixirs were mostly laundanum. He became a millionaire. His patent medicine business declined afer the passage of the Pure Food adn Drug Act in 1906 and by 1916 the products were discontinued.
